Frodo, Don’t Wear The Ring

I think this photo is fairly self explanatory. Today we spent a few hours indulging in some uninhibited geekiness. Hobbiton (A.K.A Mata Mata, New Zealand) is incredible. It doesn’t look at all like a film set, it feels as if you are actually in the shire. The hobbit holes are not just polystyrene they are genuine little houses built into the hill side! We collected some prosthetic leaves from the ‘fake’ tree which sits on Bag End then headed across the bridge to the ‘Green Dragon’ where we were all treated to a pint. Fantastic

There was a great moment on the journey back: Our bus broke down. Twice. It was absolutely boiling and we ended up waiting for around half an hour when the man at the back of the bus piped up: “Where’s Gandalf when you need him?”

  1. Tolkien was apparently very influenced by the Swiss scenery and legends – esp near Trummelbachfalle. Thinking of you here in Switzerland and off to see The Hobbit in 3D tonight.
